I live in Florida and it's thin enough for our cool winters, so I can't say for those in NY, but it would hold up for a fall for those up north. I ordered a size larger than normal but I'm liking the baggy feel of the XL. Sleeves are bit long but it's loose around the belly that I regained from laying around cause of COVID. This was incredibly simple to assemble with no tools required! It is so superior to what I am replacing (same size but made of faux plastic rattan that deteriorated after just a few years outside in the sun). Great for storing things on our poolside patio, an extra full propane tank for the grill, and some pool items. Completely shuts (yippee!) tightly so no wasp nest inside like the one I am replacing. The star blanket is very well made and the perfect weight for my 1 year old. My main issue with it is the shape. It's a long rectangle. Long ways across my son, his butt and feet stick out. I used this beautiful tablecloth for a special family get together meal where there was a lot of food and water and dishes on the table. It is first of all very lovely and elegant looking. People remarked about how nice the table looked. It was also very practical as water spilled on it was easily cleaned up with a paper towel -- the tablecloth didn't absorb a drop, but the water beaded up on it.
