Review on Dell E2414H Widescreen Discontinued Manufacturer Wide Screen Monitor by Christopher Hendrix

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good basic monitor and reasonable price for the size

I bought this for a PC based home video surveillance system. Although it is PC based, I use it as a standalone DVR for this purpose and the monitor was literally ready to go with this app. As mentioned, the factory "Brightness" setting is too bright, but this and all other adjustments are easy to make. The whole interface is very user-friendly. Unfortunately, the keys themselves are all black, making them difficult to see against the black frame. I took a very thin brush and drew a thin line of white nail polish on each one so I could see them instead of touching them. Too bad that no silver buttons were used here. This is IMHO the difference between using a non-backlit keyboard and a backlit keyboard. The stand is very strong and sturdy although I never got around to using it. I replaced a burned monitor that was wall mounted with a 10-24" Peerless mount. The VESA mount pattern is 100M x 100M on this monitor and also on my mount BUT the hole is in the back This monitor is DRAWN. So I had to order some longer screws and some spacers to use the Peerless Mount already on the wall. No big deal and it worked great. Better than replastering the wall, drilling new holes and a to buy new ones. Also, I like the Peerless Mounts better, they're made of durable solid metal, well made, and come with a variety of hardware, so if you're looking for a wall mount just be aware that the mounting range has increased by about 1 /4". plus maybe another 1/16". You'll need spacers to fill in that area and a longer screw to get a good secure attachment e reach. The back of this monitor is also slightly curved, which probably explains why the installation area is recessed. It doesn't come with speakers, but a soundbar is available. You can search on Revain. There are also several preset picture modes to choose from, or you can customize your own. I had no pixel problems. There are no cracks or dents anywhere. You can also adjust how the picture fits the screen, whether it's widescreen, normal, left, or right. While not a high-end graphics monitor, it does what I need it to do for my application, and it does it with Dell's usually good quality. The actual CCTV monitors I looked at, which were perfectly square, were significantly smaller and significantly more expensive. I couldn't pay that much for another smaller monitor if I really needed a bigger monitor. This monitor allows me to display the size I choose without sacrificing the output quality. All in all, a very stylish $119 monitor that feels solid and performs as expected. Beautiful colour, clear image and text. The difference between my cameras displaying on 17" and 24" screens is amazing. I literally forgot what more could mean! And the ability to zoom in on my DVR and cameras makes it even more appealing. For security and identification purposes, this monitor works very well for me. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a basic quality monitor where very, very high quality graphics applications aren't really an essential necessity for either your work or play. .
