Doesn't reset to zero, doesn't read correct RPM

Randomly moves up and down from around correct RPM to 2000 and then back again. I turned the engine off and it stays at 800-1200. The old one I replaced was better than the new one.

Pros
  • Fit Type: Universal Fit
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Exact Sensor Replacement

This was an exact replacement for my 2003 Four Winns boat. Installation was a bit tricky as the posts were close together and difficult to reach with a wrench in the confined space. Works as it should. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's still made in the USA.

Pros
  • Multiple Signal Sources
Cons
  • Quality

Works fine but will likely need capacitor

You will likely need a 0.1 mFd (microfarad) capacitor across the terminals to smooth out the pulses. The combination of wire resistance and capacitance creates a simple low pass filter. The instructions say so and you can get more information online. The new digital gauges are not as responsive as the old analog tech but not as "cool" on the old boat I work on.

Pros
  • 4" - hole size: 3.375" (85mm)
Cons
  • No instructions
