Educational Fun on my review.

This was a Christmas gift for my kids. I bought one from Revain and the other one on eBay. My only issue is that sometimes it takes a few times to get the Bolt to connect to the app.Other than the connecting issues, they are both having a lot of fun with them. They haven't started programming them yet. They have been rolling them around the house and changing the LCD colors.Once we go back to Homeschooling, I will incorporate coding the Sphero into our lessons.

Pros
  • Great way to get your kid interested in coding and robotics. And it’s super fun.
Cons
  • 6ytr

Hard to initially pair, pretty cool though

My 10 yo daughter is gung-ho about robots and has a couple of other kit bots. I got this thinking the display and sensors would be more novel for her, but for whatever reason this particular robot just doesn't capture her interest like the others. I think it's too "toy" like and more of a finished package where she wanted another one she could build from scratch. She's more interested in the physical building and testing than the programming I think.Initially setting it up was a pain and took…

Pros
  • I'm still trying to catch the kids attention.
Cons
  • programing is a pain in the ass

Amazing learning tool (toy)

9 yo used a gift card to purchase this bot. Has been a wonderful resource that aligns to school standards. I am able to choose activities to put in his folder of activities to work on. Really easy to differentiate (make lessons easier or harder) depending on child as they are based around grade level as well.

Pros
  • Can be used for both solo play and group activities
Cons
  • May not offer enough opportunities for creative expression or experimentation

fun and easy best in my review

I bought this for my grandchild for Christmas, hoping to ease her into some of the basics of programming. The sphere has a very nice solid feel to it, and fits on the cradle nicely for charging. I also bought a Hexnub cover, and it is somewhat inconvenient that you seem to have to remove the cover to charge it, but it does go on/off pretty easy. There are two apps, one for just playing with the ball like a remote control car, and the other for programming. The "play" app is actually a lot of…

Pros
  • I purchased for 2 of my children who have not been exposed to Spero’s. We are still learning!
Cons
  • Limited battery life may require frequent recharging

This is an all around great product. I had no problems connecting to the device or during the initial setup. The first charge takes a long time but that is due to its large battery. The Sphero Edu app is awesome, you can run user created programs or create your own. You are only limited by your own creativity. Using the Sphero Edu or Sphero Play app to remotelyf control to move the ball is very easy. If you have an interest in coding, or if you just want a cool light up balls to steer around…

Pros
  • Features an impressive array of sensors, including infrared and compass
Cons
  • May have limited shelf-life and may become outdated quickly

SPRK+ Supersized! in my review

I picked up BOLT from a local retailer and I must say it’s a nice upgrade from SPRK+. I’ve used SPRK+ to help kids learn how to code by dragging and dropping building blocks of code to create macros that the ball then executes. The BOLT new matrix allows for additional programming that is both visually appealing and fun for kids. Especially in the dark, the matrix comes to life. You can even create games on the matrix using it as a hand held controller. The EDU app has been updated for BOLT with

Pros
  • Sent as a gift to a robot freak. She loves it
Cons
  • LED matrix may be too small to display detailed images or text

Not for little kids

We received sohero as a present a few years ago for our 8 year old son. He was simply too young for it then. He used it a little and then his interest fizzled out. He is now 10 and can now use it to its full potential. I would not recommend it for under age 10.

Pros
  • We tried this out at the Apple Store and my kids had to have it. Dog loves it too! :)
Cons
  • Kids may become easily frustrated with the complex programming required

Impressive gift for kids

Beyond expectation, so simple to start , good application.Very good and strong bot material.Well package and on time delivety

Pros
  • Great fun for the kids. They really took to it fast and started coding almost immediately.
Cons
  • Small parts may be a choking hazard for younger children

Entertaining and educational

We bought this as a birthday gift for a 10 year old. She absolutely loves it. She is trying to do all different things with it. She sets up obstacles to go around and over. She plays with it until either the sphero needs charged or her phone does.

Pros
  • My son loves it, I do too lol.
Cons
  • Requires a smartphone or tablet to control, which can be limiting for some families

you might think this is for kids.well its perfect tm

I had so much fun with my Blot.and I am a 65 year old disabled grammy.i really liked that I could learn to code and make my bolt advance along with my coding learning! It is incredibly fun to play with.and get better at coding at the same time. It's more fun than you think you will have with it 10 times over.

Pros
  • I operate a funeral home where I use these mobile spheres as part of a robust security system, BOY!!!!
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all operating systems or devices

The Amazing Sphero Bolt

I'm 11 years old and I’m in 5th grade and I will review my favorite product, the Sphero Bolt. This product is for kids of many ages to explore the world of coding. Sphero comes with a app to code with and to do fun activities. When I got on to the app I went to the coding program, I loved how they used building blocks to code because it was simpler to see what I’m doing. I made a maze out of tape for sphero to go through. I had a lot of fun with the LED lights because I could make my own…

Pros
  • My daughter loves this and I love that she's learning!
Cons
  • Not waterproof or suitable for use outdoors in wet or snowy conditions

Perfect Teen Gift for my opinion

This was the perfect gift for my 13yo son! He's interested in coding but it's still pretty new to him. This has helped open the doors to more of what coding can do. He has spent hours creating patterns with the lighting and manuvering the little Sphero ball all over our house. If you have a kid that wants to learn more coding than the basics grade school teaches this is a great robot to get them.

Pros
  • Love it
Cons
  • Infrared sensors may malfunction or not function properly in certain environments

Poor product support

I purchased this product and I was able to use it once before it died and would not recharge. I submitted a request to Sphero Tech support and I received sporadic emails throughout the day from the support tech instructing me to perform the same steps and asking the same questions. I called the Support Line to request further assistance and I was advised by the Sphero Rep to send the unit back to Revain for a replacement or a refund. I opted for a replacement because I was really interested in…

Pros
  • excellent was my niece's Christmas gift and she's happy
Cons
  • App may require frequent updates that may be time-consuming to install

Great for young coders

My 9 year old granddaughter loves it. Seems sturdier than I first thought it would be. Only downside is that the cat hates it rolling around.

Pros
  • Allows kids to learn coding skills in a fun, interactive way
Cons
  • May not be very engaging or fun for children who are not interested in programming or technology

Great FUN for Mom and Teenage Son!

I got this for my 14 year old son who loves programming and is on the robotics team at school. He loves it so much! It can be hard to find things that he and I like to do together, but we both have tons of fun with our BOLT. He gets a kick out of teaching his mom how it works too. ;)

Pros
  • Sphero Bolt is awesome, fast shipping and great price!
Cons
  • Requires a lot of space to use and may not be suitable for small apartments or homes

This is not the first Sphero I own, but it is by far the best overall. Combined with the Sphero EDU app/website, this is an amazing device. I am 47 years old and I love the ability to use this to learn javascript and do so many things I never knew a little ball could do. Perfect for kids to learn and have fun in every way, great way to have learning and fun interacting time with your kids. Virtually limitless possibilities.

Pros
  • Kids love it, thing looks cool. Fun to chase dog around with it too lol
Cons
  • Some sensors may be too sensitive or not sensitive enough

Like it alot on my review.

I like that it’s fun 2 hour batty but not the 6 hour charge I recommend you charge overnight also love the matrix panel Is great!

Pros
  • Is great
Cons
  • May be difficult to troubleshoot or diagnose problems with the app or device

Old Stock , batteries not lasting

This seems to be an old stock of these Spheros. The product works fine but the batteries don’t last to long. The packing was super scuffed and dirty. As if they where in sitting in a warehouse for a long long time. I am going to call and see about a warranty replacement.

Pros
  • Great learning toy
Cons
  • May be too advanced for some children and leave them feeling discouraged or frustrated

Not sure how much programming is learned, but it is better than screen only experience for kids. The Sphero is a tough little droid that is a lot of fun, the dog even finds it an interesting new ball to chase.

Pros
  • INSPIRING THE CREATORS OF TOMORROW: With our undeniably cool fleet of programmable robots and educational STEAM tools, we're inspiring a new generation of inventors and changemakers through hands-on applied learning of coding, science, music and the arts.
Cons
  • Limited range of movement may limit the types of programming activities that can be done with Sphero BOLT

Crazy cool - my new review

This is the coolest thing ever. I bought this for myself to play with but it was to technical for me so I mailed it to my son. Hopefully he can have fun with this thing. I like the fact that you can program it yourself to do what you want it to do and I can't wait to see what my son does with It

Pros
  • Teaches problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Cons
  • May have limited learning value for children who are already proficient in programming languages
