The hinges are unreliable and break easily

I wrote a very positive review about how this stand has helped me with my back problems and encouraged me to sit up straight and approach my iPhone/Fire at eye level look, and don't look down. The idea is great, but the hinges that allow you to change the height and tilt of the stand are very flimsy so they break easily as they are made of brittle plastic. I bought three of these and won't be buying any more because they just don't last. I am again looking for a product that improves reading…

BED reads best in lap desks

Great, does what I bought it for. Now I can read in bed without holding a book. Me and anyone who ever buys this product needs to make an inexpensive modification. Purchase a bag of large elastics, attach them together to stretch them around the bookend, and tie the loop together. This tight elastic loop is enough to get the top of the book underneath. This keeps the book in place and gives you enough room to turn the page underneath. Your hands are free.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Great price

Perfect and lightweight

This is perfect for the hands free situation we needed. It's so light and yet so strong. It took a few minutes to adjust it to the 'right' position, but once that was done everything was perfect. We added a small bungee cord down the center of the book stand to hold the pages open and that was all that was needed to really free your hands. It was bought for those who couldn't keep their hands in the air with a book for long and with the added elastic it was perfect.

Significant improvement needed

A useful item that could be greatly improved - firstly due to a stronger design; the slightest touch makes his "limbs" wiggle. Forget about using this for weighty volume. He can't support it. Two metal "cubes" (don't know what they're for) on the top sides interfere with placement of reading material. The lip is so narrow that this stand is really only good for one magazine, and even then a thin one. You can throw your New York Times at it. Unfortunately, if you want to read the bottom half of…

Poor quality for the purpose and price.

Disappointed. Arrived just in time as I'm having rotator cuff surgery on Monday and wanted to use it to read a book or use my iPad in bed and I don't need to use my left hand. It was very difficult trying to evenly bend my legs to the angle I needed without tipping over. Even with two people, it is difficult to adjust the angle of the legs. As I lay on the bed to try it, it tipped over and the metal tray hit my shin, injuring me. Ouch! The small clips kept falling off when I put my iPad on…
