🌑 Westcott 2348 50-Inch Recessed Mega JS Apollo: The Ultimate Black Lighting Solution Review

Tested when I first got it. It was difficult to keep it open (it had to be rotated to align the groove with the piece of metal to hold it in place. It has remained unused to this day. I took it out in the field and the Pyrenees fell apart trying to to open the umbrella Total disappointment.

This thing is huge! I use this with the Alienbees B400 and the ease of mixing is fantastic. The only downside is the kit doesn't offer any storage space and I just put it back in the plastic bags that came with the package. You need your own storage if you want to travel with it

I bought this to use with some other Apollo/Halo modifiers for maternity and baby photography. It works as advertised but is incredibly weak and I've bent every Apollo/Halo mod just by using them a few times. The investment costs were therefore low. Also, it quickly becomes very annoying to have to open and close the modifier every time to adjust flash or flash position, power, umbrella stick and change batteries. Again, as long as this product actually works, I would strongly recommend getting

The 50" Westcott Apollo Softbox is a great light shaper. Of all my light modifiers, I like the 50" Apollo the best. I use it with studio flashes and torches. Single 580EXII, I can get about f5.6 at about 40" and it gives quality window light! I knew this softbox would be great in my tiny studio, but I needed something this sized for newborn photography and toddlers. I use it with an AlienBee 400 and in a small room it offers a nice soft enveloping light; Perfect for those gray rainy days when the window light I usually use just isn't enough.
