    Overkill for the homeowner

    I wanted to test the water to make sure the softener was still working. The kit was easy to use, signs of discoloration were clearly visible and the process was straightforward. Lost 1 star because you couldn't get a test kit for home use, it was clearly packaged for professional use but still easy enough for a homeowner to use. I have tested the water, confirmed the softener settings, verified that the softener is working and now I have 97 uses left.

    Inaccurate measurement

    by specifying the exact number of hardness grains in your water, it gives you a better idea. And since you always have to put at least one drop of EDTA in a tube to see a color change, it's impossible to tell if your water has a 0 or 1 grain hardness. It works well enough to tell if your water softener is working, so if that's all you need this product should be good and fairly inexpensive. The set is very nicely packaged for storage.

    Works well, although you have to follow (simple) instructions. I wish they had provided a laminated instruction card (I scanned it immediately for safekeeping). The plastic bottle fits but is too small in my opinion and the hole in the top of the lid is too small for accurate instillation. I don't use it and it works much better. It is important to measure the hardness - as far as I know there is no other way to do this. Forget the stripes - it's useless. If you have a water softener, you need…
