Review on ViewSonic XG2705 27'' 144Hz Gaming Monitor - Frameless, FreeSync, Ergonomics, Anti-Glare by Tommy Tubbs

flickering and other problems

When delivered, the monitor has many ghost images/streaks. In a framerate game it looks like ultra high motion blur. After playing around with the monitor settings for a while I managed to reduce this. After a couple of weeks, a pixel spot started flickering (as seen in the video). I fixed it by lowering the refresh rate in Windows from 144Hz to 120Hz. Raising it to 144Hz immediately brought the flickering back, and lowering it to 120Hz solved the problem. A few months later the problem returns, now at 120Hz. Flickering also occurs at 60 and 100Hz, so lowering the refresh rate no longer solves the problem. Raising it to 144Hz results in a black screen and no image at all. I contacted ViewSonic customer service and they were friendly and prompt. The big problem was that I had to pay to send the monitor back to them for repair. They would reimburse me for shipping, but even just shipping from my home in Ohio to their facility in California would cost around $70 via UPS or USPS. So I would pay as much to send it to them (7 days delivery time), they would fix it (they claim 10-14 days for repair) and then they would send it back (7 more days). All in all, a monitor that works well (maybe) in a month or so will cost you $70. For the money I'll go back to 60 Hz for now. Maybe I'll try to upgrade my monitor again at some point when the graphics cards no longer cost 2-3 months' rent. And no, I haven't upgraded to 144Hz to play American Truck Simulator. That's exactly what I played back then. I give the monitor 2 stars because it was good while it lasted. Unfortunately only for 6 months.
