Inaccurate and can't be calibrated properly

Thing stinks, its 8 degree deviation isn't very good when you're trying to measure the temperature of the congestion you're so accurate want to get as possible. I've tried adjusting the nut to calibrate it in a glass of ice water and it seems fine and when I use it again it turns off. Stay away from this piece of shit! Get one from your local HBS so you can return it if you run into problems.

    Pros
    • Great for a small house
    Cons
    • Questionable purchase for the elderly

    Bad Product

This thermometer is decent, but certainly not great. First, the clamp holding it to the side of the pot is very flimsy and doesn't hold it very well when you stir the wort. Second, its accuracy is in doubt - when I chose the temperature of the mash. , I had to use an instant-read digital meat thermometer instead because I couldn't tell for sure. alone is not enough.

    Pros
    • Good
    Cons
    • Obsolete Model

I verified this by comparing readings in water at various temperatures, from room temperature to boiling, using a digital thermometer for comparison. In the range of a typical beer mash, 140-160 degrees, the accuracy seems to be a degree or two. However, the scale is small enough to be a little hard to read. Do not expect high accuracy from this device. I bought this to be able to measure the temperature in my mash tun lower than my supermarket digital thermometer can reach, so it's useful for…
