This is a must if you have a variable speed pump. I have created a table of measured flow over the speed range of my variable speed pump. The data allowed me to find a "golden mean” for consumption and energy efficiency. I was able to program a 3-times-a-day schedule and only cost me $30 a month. The water is much cleaner. Without a flow meter, you're just guessing. My original pump schedule called for the water to only rotate 1.8 times a day. The water looks sooo much cleaner. I also switched sand to glass. The pressure in the filter has dropped, the water is being polished, everything is fine. It's useless to have a variable speed pump if you don't use a flow meter to optimize it. Excellent investment.
