Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Black Canon PowerShot SD3500IS Digital Camera - 14.1 MP with 3.5-Inch Touch Panel LCD, 5x Ultra Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom by Derrick Villarreal

A gallant first touchscreen attempt.

I have upgraded from an SD630 that I have had since mid 2006. I liked my old SD. What I like about SD is the wide angle shots, the choice of vivid colors, the image stitching and the overall image quality. So I decided to stick with the SD line. PROS: - Gorgeous touchscreen that will have everyone googling (by zooming in on the screen you'll actually know if your image is blurry before viewing it on your computer, unlike the SD630) - Sleek design - Touch menu that almost equivalent to old SD menu. CONS: - Canon still takes awful nighttime landscape shots; - Some blurring for "squirting" photographers (that tourist who offers to take a photo of you in exchange for his) despite your ISO/auto settings; - The touch menu is noticeably slow compared to the manual menu (your photo process may end when the picture is set the way you want); - The optical zoom does not work with the video function. I felt like most of the "photographic moments" were over when the touch menu caught up with me. I don't know how I feel about the camera size. It's a bit thicker but otherwise smaller than my iPhone. Translation: great for the screen size but very bulky for a clutch/small purse or women's bag. All in all, people who don't photograph every moment of their life, but like to take pictures here and there, will love this camera. It's smooth, beautiful and effective. Those of us who clutter the Facebook or Flickr servers with a few albums (or carry Micro 4/3s and DSLRs) will find this camera still missing. If my SD630 had the same pixel-by-pixel shots, I would use the touchscreen to select them.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
