Although the lid is easy to remove.

I thought when I bought this that you would have to take the lid off almost every time you adjusted the volume or turned the iPod Shuffle on or off, but you can actually press the buttons with the lid closed - a pleasant surprise. The cover is easy to remove. It won't fall off when you move the device, but it's very easy to put on and take off. I see that as a plus but I can see it as a minus when used on young children.
