Great quality but sizing doesn't match shoe size

These socks are nice and well cushioned. They seem like they will last. I bought the size 7-8 for my 7 year old, who wears size 3, thinking they would be large with room to grow into. Instead they fit my 4 year old who wears a size 12-1. We can still use them but the sizing is wacky.
