Review on Enhanced Kenwood KFC-6966S 3-Way Automotive Speaker for Superior Sound Performance by Larry Blanco

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really good speakers for the money but will NOT fit a 2006 Honda Accord.

To be clear I'm not a music lover so I'm not an expert on overall sound quality. But I do know when the speakers are dead and the readout panel speakers have been fried in my trusty 2006 Honda Accord. First, because the car was stock due to its age and because it had spent most of its life outdoors in the Texas sun, the original speakers sounded like someone stuffed a pillow inside. So, based on the reviews and claiming they fit my car, I bought them. They were well packaged and after I found out how to attach the covers and speakers to my car i installed them which was pretty easy. I also used the recommended adapter (which I'll review separately but works great) to connect the cables. So far, so good. I checked them. Sounds much, much better. Then I tried to put normal grills. Long story short, the new speakers have a high metal rim (for lack of a better word) that surrounds them, so from where they sit on the back plate they're taller than the original speakers, and has the original Honda grille a rim with foam on it that matches the height of the old speakers and forms a kind of seal. Honda designed it well, but the edge of these speakers meets an edge, hanging from the speaker grille, so that was a problem. I wanted to keep the original grilles and the grilles that came with the new speakers wouldn't work like Honda speakers anyway. Cut the excess on the Honda Original Equipment speaker grills about 2/3 inch all the way around. I reapplied the foam as much as I could (the good news is it was still a little sticky on the underside after all these years) and then reattached the grilles. I'm sure it's not as tight as it was when it came from the factory. However. The sound is 100% better. Really rich, dynamic sound on my daily 25 mile commute to work. Worth the price and the hassle of installing them. My brother-in-law has the same car and has 332. 000 miles in his account. I'm hoping to get another 200,000 to catch up with him. Let's hope these speakers last that long. ;) In the end, these speakers are fine, but remember,

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Expensive
