We bought this for our Leonberger pup for $5,000. It's been 15 years since I've adopted a pet so I've used what the breeder fed him to keep things stable. I noticed that the diarrhea was excessive. But if you look at food packaging labels, you'll see that lentils, beans, chickpeas, and various other legumes make up the bulk of the calories and, yes, the bulk of the protein in dog food. Animal meal has a very small proportion of the total protein. So I did a little research and came across V-Dog, a brand of non-GMO whole food foods for large dogs and puppies. We ordered something from Revain and our Leonberger ate it. The best thing was that the bowel movements became harder and there was no more diarrhea. According to additional research, the dog's longest lifespan was on an all-plant diet, living for 27 years. Many of the recent Guinness World Records for different dog breeds are for dogs fed a plant-based diet of lentils etc. Too many of my previous dogs have died of cancer within 5 years. We have invested a lot in this great Leonberger breed. First and foremost, we want to make sure that our new family member will have the highest quality and as long a life as possible. I will no longer buy pet food that contains "animal meal" that is not meat and contains no protein.
