While most people use this organizer for children's toys, I use it for wrenches, drill bits, extension cords, clips, rope and other tools. You wouldn't think a plastic framed storage box system would be suitable for mechanical devices, but it is. I wouldn't put a car battery in one of these tanks, but if I tried, it wouldn't fit. A motorcycle or golf cart battery will and will have adequate support. The crossbeams of the frame are made of steel and covered in a plastic tube. While I wouldn't recommend it as a step stool, I could probably stand on it and not destroy the device. The side supports are made of plastic, but are two inches thick and double-walled. Since it is designed for children's rooms, it has protective "legs" on the underside that prevent even heavy loads from tipping over. Baskets are the lightest components, but they are as strong or as strong as regular plastic shopping baskets. The colors aren't too masculine, but hey, the stores are going a bit grey, so the variety is nice.
