This product offers some protection to the car (especially at the front) as it is thick enough to protrude so another parking space there cushions the impact. Not sure if the rear will be the same as most of the rear number plates aren't on the bumper. I bought two and mounted them on two cars. They are so flexible that you can insert your number plate without too much trouble and then the number plate itself attaches to the car.
