Slightly Disappointed - Camping & Hiking

After much research the Estwing turned out to be good quality at a reasonable price so I went with it. As others have said, the finish is not durable. This doesn't bother me, although I couldn't expect the color to stay when I drove it into a piece of wood, there's a lot of friction. This ax will split wood, but its thin head makes it not the best choice. I knew this would factor into my purchase. I'd say it's better suited for chopping off limbs and maybe felling small seedlings etc. The biggest problem I've had with an ax is blade twisting. Judging by the reviews, others also had such a problem. I cut small pieces of pear on a bed of wood shavings. There were no rocks or hard objects near my work area. I can only assume that the blade was warped from hitting the wooden parts. I took a hammer and smoothed it out as best I could. I'm almost afraid to use it for chopping wood again. It worked well for smashing tent stakes in with the flat side of his head. I wish I had spent a little more for a quality axe. :( Note: the photos were taken after I flattened the roll with a hammer so you can't see the actual damage but you can see the changes on the edges.
