but it would be a great ax for camping

I originally bought this ax thinking it was the right size to clip to my bag. It's a bit big for this purpose, but it would make a great camping axe. I'm a short guy, 136 pounds, and I can wield this ax with one hand, it's also big enough for me to comfortably hold it with two hands. For a taller person, this ax might be perfect to attach to your bag. When I was a little guy, I left this ax at camp and used it to chop down small trees and split logs. I have a smaller E24A that I can clip to my…

Nice limited edition ax by Eastwing

As a collector of knives, axes and axes I was very pleased with the overall craftsmanship of this axe. However, this is the first Eastwing product I have received with a small chip in the center of the blade. I got it done in half an hour's work using a quality whetstone. Use the rough side of the stone first and then finish the sharpening process with the thin side of the stone. Again, I'm surprised Eastwing let a chipped ax pass quality control. All of this also makes me wonder if the blade…

Good hacker! in Axes and Axes

This item is well made and heavy. People sometimes complain about the weight, but I feel like it has to be heavy to be useful. This is my third ax purchase from Revain. The first two suck! Light weight and bounced off the stump instantly without getting stuck in it. This fits well the first time. Also spicy! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it has FOUR crappy and gooey stickers on it! I hate stickers and they don't peel off well. Why spoil your instrument? In general, this is…

Slightly Disappointed - Camping & Hiking

After much research the Estwing turned out to be good quality at a reasonable price so I went with it. As others have said, the finish is not durable. This doesn't bother me, although I couldn't expect the color to stay when I drove it into a piece of wood, there's a lot of friction. This ax will split wood, but its thin head makes it not the best choice. I knew this would factor into my purchase. I'd say it's better suited for chopping off limbs and maybe felling small seedlings etc. The…

Hard ax for kindling

Great ax for lighting the campfire. At 16 inches, it takes some arm and forearm strength to guide one hand for any length of time. You can hold it close to your head for more precise control. I clamped the hatchet in a vise and sharpened the factory edge a little, then turned a club (mallet) with it. I cut a smaller handle from one end of a piece of hickory wood that was 4" in diameter and 14" long. This is a fairly heavy club and is excellent for ax blows. I use a hatchet instead of a frog. I…
