Review on MS135 SuperWire Bulk 135ft 18AWG Stranded Super Antenna for Ham Radio Amateur with PTFE Coating by Guled Probz

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good wire but poorly packaged

I call it "puzzle wire" because if you try to unroll it, it turns into a twisted rat's nest of tangled wire that will take you hours to figure out how to straighten out. Not bad as an antenna cable. I bought this to make 4 equal length counterweights. Unfortunately they must have wound it on a machine that twists the wire as it is wound. This isn't good for the same reason you're told not to wrap an electrical extension cord around your elbow. Unless you're very careful unwinding the wire from the outside in a 135-foot space and unwinding each spool as you go, kinks, loops, and tangles will quickly form and keep you busy. My goal was to cut it in half and then cut each half again to make four 33 foot wires. The challenge was to unroll and straighten out the mess. This took a long time, but luckily I don't have to do it again: I roll each counterweight in a plastic form so it doesn't twist or tangle like wire pulled out of the box. The counterweights work well, but it will take a lot of patience to unwind and untangle the wire. If the wire had been packaged on a spool or box form this would not have happened but it is supplied packaged as an untied spool.

Pros
  • LENGTH: 135 feet (41 meters), spool of wire without spool. Ideal for crimping or soldering.
Cons
  • Very Expensive
