Review on Enhance Your Marine Ignition πŸ”₯ System with Sierra 18-5107-1 Ignition Module by Shane Jess

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally! Works as it should!

Finally! After buying 5. FIVE! . Modules from different vendors on Revain, this is the one that works. All 5 vendors have indicated that the part they are selling (new) replaces Volvo Penta 3854003. I've been tearing my hair out for months now thinking that not all 5 modules can be defective and that something is wrong with my setup. All 5 modules will work i.e. the engine will run but they will not be premature and the engine will have no power at WOT. I went as far as building a test bench to drive the signal generator modules and checking the output with an oscilloscope. All he did was confirm - yes all 5 modules are not in advance. So, out of desperation, I decided to try another module. And bingo! it works! There was nothing wrong with my setup. My understanding of how these modules are supposed to work is correct. It's just that there are a number of vendors on Revain who sell cheap Chinese crap without even testing it. So for all other vendors this module should do the following: 1. Start the engine 2. Maintain a relatively constant deceleration time as the RPM increases 3. Increase the timing from (for V8) 10 at 600 rpm to 22 at 2800 rpm (plus basic lead time); With a shunt connected to the 4-pin connector, the module shouldn't be ahead of the timing at all. I observed different behaviors with 5 modules from other manufacturers: too long deceleration time (causing overheating problems), no acceleration at all, too little advance, inconsistent timing. Obviously nobody tested them and/or knew what to do.
