We bought this nylon tarpaulin as a waterproof cover for part of the patio. First we tried "sun sails", but realized very quickly that they are not waterproof. We were looking for: 1. waterproof, 2. size, 3. lightweight. This tarp met all three of our criteria, but we only gave it 4 1/2 stars due to an unforeseen issue. It's expanding! The tarpaulin is installed in the form of an inclined track away from the eaves of the house with 4 spring-loaded corners. With this design, it can easily withstand wind gusts of 30 miles per hour. However, we have found that it collects and retains water on the bottom half of the tarpaulin during and after a downpour. This weight causes the nylon to stretch on that side. Over time, the amount of water held by the tarpaulin gradually increased as the deformation of that part of the tarpaulin towards the deck surface became quite noticeable. We can realign the tarp and use the other half, but it will also stretch over time and eventually we'll have to replace it. But with what? I believe this issue is unlikely as long as water does not collect on the tarp.
