As the name suggests, this instrument is very accurate in ear mode, especially if you remember to set it to ear mode before measuring! Try as I may, with what I have, I have not been able to get consistently accurate readings with a forehead scan. It takes longer and the reading was two to three degrees below normal, as a conventional glass thermometer shows. The ear reading is instant and has always been accurate so I will always use it. I wanted to use the pure forehead model but saw it was dual mode and got that instead. I'm glad I did.
