I have a laptop with a standard latest generation Intel chipset. It supports DisplayPort 1.4 over USB-C with the ANX7411 controller. It is configured to dual boot Windows and Linux. I also have two AOC 2790VQ monitors with 4K resolution, HDMI and DisplayPort. All new equipment, all bought new this year (monitors have been on the market for a few years). With monitors plugged directly into the laptop and one using a USB-C to DP converter, everything works fine on both Windows 10 and Windows 10. Ubuntu 20.10. When switching to a CalDigit SOHO dock on Windows, the second attached monitor always matched FHD or lower. Chipset drivers are standard Microsoft drivers. On Linux I was able to get it to only show all three displays. The support team responds quickly to calls. I didn't have to wait. They were helpful but eventually decided it was a driver issue. May be.
