They are very comfortable and have nice ankle padding (which I like because it's very comfortable if you get hit in the ankle, whether it's a fall off your board or your board crashes into your ankles falls ), but they're damn strong. I do downhill longboarding/skate occasionally so I fall often, especially at high speeds. In addition, these shoes have great grip. They look like Atwood Vans paired with Hightop of the Half Cabs, which I like even more. They are only soft in the ankle area. So the rest of the shoe is nice, not bulky or heavy. And yes, they look fantastic. Definitely recommend
