Review on 🚰 Efficient EcoSmart ECO 18 Electric Tankless Water Heater: 18 KW at 240 Volts with Self Modulating Technology by Bernard Larjin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very happy with Ecosmart ECO 18

I purchased an ECOsmart ECO 18 water heater from Revain in April during one of their open stock sales for a great price . The device arrived in shambles (as I expected). After knocking out the broken lid (due to improper shipping packaging), I inspected the interior and found that several parts were ajar and the cold water inlet was missing. Revain offered me an additional discount so I took it and went to fix the block and replace the missing part. The cold-in fitting has a unique, one-of-a-kind fitting thread, and I quickly realized it was a must-have. The call to Ecosmart Technical Support was handled personally and professionally. The technician told me that this part is not available. He then went into their parts bin, found a used one and sent it to me for next to nothing. I am very satisfied with the Ecosmarts service! The unit sat for 4 months before I had time to install it myself. I wanted to make sure it worked before gutting my perfectly working water heater, so I found this report by installing permanent wiring but temporarily connecting the unit so as not to disturb the existing water heater. First, I live in South Florida (Broward County). Our water is quite warm (in summer the inlet temperature is 70 degrees). I can only report how the device performed at sufficiently high flow temperatures. I've lived in places where the water is 50 degrees in the past. Tap year round (NE Ohio) so I know I live in ideal conditions for an electric water heater. I can report the following: I measured my normal shower water temperature. I love hot showers. Using a lab thermometer, I found that 95 to 98 degrees water is pretty damn hot. Maybe not hot enough to thaw a frozen Ohio linesman or a firefighter with ice on his face, but hot enough for ordinary people. I have an ECOsmart 18 because the electricity in my house is only 150 amps. Larger Ecosmart devices would overwhelm my supply chain. As tested, a flow of 5 GPM (enough for two old fashioned shower heads AND a hot sink), the measured hot water outlet temperature was 115 degrees. This is when the device is set to its maximum elevation (140 degrees). The unit maintains the water temperature 45 degrees up from the inlet temp. Tested at a flow rate of 2.5 GPM (enough for an old fashioned shower head and sink), the unit maintained a temperature of 135 degrees at a temperature setting of 140. My unit had no problems maintaining an output of 115 degrees when set at 120 degrees at a flow rate of 2.5 gpm. In testing I found a constant 5 degree error between what the device says about the set temperature and the actual temperature.. bad considering this is not an aerospace product and there may be a small error in measurement I replace has 65 gallon capacity and HE REALLY lights up a light in the house every time the heating element comes on (noticeably annoying). I am very pleased to report that the Ecosmart 18 device does not flicker with the lights in my home. If you look very closely you'll see that in the house's interior lights when the Ecosmart turns on you can see a very, very small, small charge, but it's MUCH better than my existing standard water heater. The ECO 18 turns on at very low water flow (a sink turned on just enough to wet a toothbrush will activate it to heat water), so the flow detection is perfect and not a factor at all. My general opinion is: yes, the device is fragile and can be damaged in transit. Once in use, it's durable enough to last and works better than advertised. If you are in a very cold water climate, you will need the largest unit and a proper power supply. Ecosmart lists modestly what the device can actually do. As long as you read the specifications of each of their units, adjust your water needs and water temperature, and follow the installation instructions, you will never be disappointed in your Ecosmart unit purchase. These things are great! Do your homework before you buy and customize it properly, you won't be disappointed! Removing that old water heater and replacing it with an Ecosmart has given me a lot more space in my garage which is an added benefit too!
