Review on πŸ”¦ Superior Quality Aurabeam Economy Replacement Lamp with Housing for Sony XL-5200 by Pete Brown

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The lamp works but pay attention to the description - know what you're getting

When I first received these I was upset but that was because I made an incorrect assumption that it wasn't necessarily supported by the product description. I think I've jumped to conclusions just because I know the official Sony xl-5200 uses a Phillips branded bulb and there are several different listings of the same bulb on Amazon - some show the Phillips brand in the picture, some don't. I thought I ordered Philips but the product name/picture here doesn't really say it. However it says Sony xl-5200 which doesn't exist if it means Sony production and wrong if it means Sony OEM as it would mean Phillips. The product description on the case also says "Sony xl-5200 replacement", which is actually not the case. It's meant to replace Sony, but this product isn't owned by Sony or Phillips. a misleading description (although this can be the case where there is only one description and some sellers are actually selling the real deal while others are selling generic fakes). For the record, I bought discounted DLP TV tubes from them. So if you're buying from them and expecting an OEM, I would ask first and make sure. I'm a little worried about fakes being priced by a well known brand and that's partly their fault, but mine is guessing too so I can't turn that down. As for the lamp, it works. It will probably take longer to see how well this works - I believe the generic brand is why some people's bulbs fail early (the warranty is only 6 months). The lamp is easy to fit into an existing case - if you know how to use a screwdriver you don't have to worry about paying an extra $30 to fit it into the case, it's a waste of time. There is only one screw holding the case together and two wires leading to the bulb itself - one is held by a screw, the other by a screw that can be easily unscrewed/unscrewed with your fingers. It's damn easy.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Very expensive
