Call me impressed. I bought these for my two little nephews who I knew would love to play with walkie talkies. I had no idea how well they would actually work. As a kid, all the walkie-talkies I had were just awful. Most of the time there was so much interference that you couldn't even understand half of what was being said, and walkie-talkies were more of a struggle than a pleasure to play with back then. Fast forward to today and I now have a "real life pair of walkie-talkies designed for semi-professional use that I have taken on family outings. When I received these "toy" walkie talkies I was impressed that they work just as well as the semi-professional ones I own. To test them, my wife took one of them for a walk down the street while I stayed at home. We talked all the time while she walked. She made it about five houses from ours before turning around and going home. She could have continued as we had no loss of reception. By our calculations it was about a quarter of a mile away. My reception was crystal clear and my wife said she had minimal static, which is what we'd expect from walkie-talkies. As well as these walkie-talkies work, they're still like toys and I wouldn't advise you to get one. instead of more expensive hiking equipment. But it's a great option for kids to have fun. I noticed where someone said they wouldn't turn on. I would like to point out that it takes a little longer to turn on and off. If you want to turn them on and off, you have to press and hold the power button for about four seconds. If you are looking for fun gadgets for kids then this is a great option. Each walkie-talkie requires four AAA batteries, but that's really the only issue I have with building/running these devices.
