This works as expected on my iPhone 6 and iPad Pro 10.5. But I broke it almost immediately when trying to stretch it wider to fit the iPad. There is a lock on one half of the mount, which is used for small devices like the iPhone. It has a release button under the hot shoe that isn't obvious to the untrained eye. It's a black button under a black hot shoe, and my eyes are almost 69 years old, so the little button is easy to miss. This button must be pressed to release half of the sliding bracket. I'm glad I didn't pull so hard that I broke it! The swivel head is surprisingly strong. It weighs more than a sliding mount. It works well for its intended purpose. Aside from the lack of printed instructions, I'm glad this serves my occasional need to set up a phone or tablet.
