Use as flower pots and self-watering pots.

I use them for flower pots. Because they are transparent, you can see the roots growing and check if the plant needs watering. You can check healthy root growth and see when a plant has grown back to roots simply by looking at it. Soil takes on a different color when dry. You can see how dry the soil is at different depths. For my taste it also looks very nice to see the soil and roots in addition to the plant. You can use a lighter to burn some small drainage holes in the bottom. Or, what I do for some plants, I put 2 inches of perlite in the soil as a water reservoir, a black plastic screen on top to separate it from the soil, and cover the rest with soil. There are no holes. As you pour you can see when the water starts dripping into the tank. That's enough water. Or you can add enough water to fill a reservoir that seeps into the soil so there is less time between waterings, or ensure certain plants never dry out. If I want to make sure the soil doesn't dry out, I add a few long pieces of nylon twine from the bottom of the pot into the soil to act as wicks. This makes for a simple, cheap, self-watering pot. Despite the thin plastic, they are strong enough for this. As an added bonus, I can cut a slit in the lid and place it over the pot to keep the squirrels from digging in the nuts and killing the plant like they love to do. The lid closes quite well.
