I bought this combo set about a year ago for a project that never materialized. Today I tested both adapters on my computer because they got too hot and ended up melting. The first only lasted 5 minutes before I smelled burnt plastic. looked at the adapter and it melted in the middle of both the front and back of the adapter. maybe thought it was the powered USB hub it was plugged into, so I tried the second in that combo but plugged it straight into my desktop USB port. sure, after another 5-10 minutes the smell of burnt plastic was floating in the air looking at that second adapter and it's melting in the same place. Both adapters are VERY hot (you'll burn yourself if you unplug them) because they don't seem to be doing anything. They both still work amazingly, but I wouldn't trust them. I opened the first one that melted and it looks like the chip on the board overheated and started melting. The fusing is done over the chip in these adapters, so it makes sense. maybe some ventilation or a sink or some other solution and that wouldn't be so bad. but by the looks of it, it costs $10 in burn hazard.
