Bought to store spools of sewing thread. I read the comments and made sure regular spools of thread fit snugly in the gaps. Well I'm here to say that you can't stick a regular spool of thread in the gaps - at least not in the way I was hoping to store it. I wanted a way to save the thread and see the colors easily. The bobbin does not fit horizontally in the compartments, so you can see the colors well. They stay put in the compartment, however, and the lid has enough force to close and latch. One more note: Some people have asked if the compartments fit Hot Wheels or Matchbox vehicles. The answer is no." You can remove the sides of the compartment that run the length of the box, but the dividers that run the width snap into place and cannot be removed. The strength and thickness of the plastic is impressive .the hinges allow the lid to open 180 degrees.I gave the durability 3 stars out of 5 simply because I haven't used this box long enough to comment on this, but based on the thickness of the plastic used I would expect that the box holds well.
