Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 911-242 EGR Valve for Optimal Performance in Select Models by Bennie Wilks

DO NOT BUY! It'll cost you more money than it's worth if it fails!

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Dorman 911-242 DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY! I ignored the very mixed reviews on this part because the low price was very tempting and I trusted the seller (Revain) to sort out any issues. Unfortunately, less than 3 weeks after my mechanic installed this Dorman EGR valve, there was a serious electrical problem - the auto throttle light (red with flash) was flashing, at the same time my engine was VERY rough and the train is yellow. The anti-lock brake system light was on constantly, as was the check engine light. Eventually, after a few of these problems, the van defaulted to "automatic" and would not go faster than 10 mph. Even after clearing the codes, disconnecting the negative battery cable, etc. It was only after - on the advice of my mechanic - I disconnected the electrical connection to the Dorman EGR valve that my van came out of limp mode. My mechanic, who has years of experience in the family's used car business, said the package may have been handled too roughly during delivery to my home. I don't know - it's possible, but all I know now is that not only should I buy a replacement valve block (NOT Dorman), I should pay my mechanic again to put the new valve in. IT'S NOT WORTH IT - the possibility of something going wrong with a cheaper and less reliable part is NOT WORTH the possible increase in cost of replacing and fitting another part - a more expensive part you thought you were saving money on ! By the way, Revain only allows returns within 30 days. :-( I just discovered that too - Dorman will supposedly replace the "correctly installed defective part" within a year. But I don't want to risk any more money on possible junk. If there was something, I could just do that Unboxing and using isn't that big of a deal, but having to pay someone else to install it makes the "guarantee" a lot less attractive.
