In the end we returned them because they were uncomfortable for our children's feet, which we would have swapped for wider ones. But we did notice that part of the sole has some sort of felt lining underneath. I don't know if the picture helps, but it's under the heel. Since it runs a lot I was worried about the tread and grip so I decided to return it. Although the overall look of the shoe isn't bad.
