. You must first update Tivo's UI before you can even attempt to customize it. After upgrading from 30 minutes to an hour, you have to make an effort to get the key to work properly. I set up the remote exactly as instructed, but for some reason after each setup the menu freezes every time I press the button. I left it for about 5 minutes but after nothing changed I pulled the key and it worked again but then the system rebooted. I wrestled with this thing for about an hour, after which I decided maybe something was wrong with the signal or the box, so I took the batteries out of the old Tivo remotes, unplugged the mini in the next room, and unplugged the box. A few minutes later I plugged it back in, went through the remote setup again and finally started working and was able to reconnect the mini and turn on the other remote. Since installing it I haven't had any more problems with the remote control, the only problem now is the terrible design of the user interface. Thankfully the voice controls don't work too badly and the Netflix button is a great addition as that's all we mostly watch outside of our recorded shows. However, keep in mind that putting batteries in isn't that easy if you're considering buying this remote control. , the installation will take at least an hour if you haven't already installed the new user interface.
