I have 3 cats who do NOT eat for free, are overweight and live indoors. My long haired dog has skin allergies and is very picky about her food. We did a serum allergy test and it was inconclusive. Although food allergies in cats don't usually present as skin allergies, the doctor suggested switching their diet to a restricted diet just to see if that would help. We tried several vet exclusive hypoallergenic foods and she wouldn't eat them and having multiple cats in the house would be quite expensive. The doctor suggested trying an over-the-counter diet with these caveats: Stay away from feathers and scales (no fish or birds). After searching I found this - lamb is the main protein - MY CAT LOVES IT! She still has her breakouts of dermatitis, but I can deal with them more easily. Instead of getting steroid injections every 3 months they have now been reduced to about once a year. I also changed their filling to dust-free, so that's probably a factor too. I'm not saying it's over, but Pro Plan is a proven product in veterinary medicine. Pet food is a hot topic so I encourage owners to do their own research and consider your pet's lifestyle/diet/eating habits etc.
