I groom my Standard Poodle and figured I could do with plastic clip on combs instead of buying this blade. Why have I waited? I used it for the first time today and it was worth buying! I usually wait longer than I should between brushing my poodle because I either have to bathe and brush my poodle all day or I'm paying a hundred dollars to have someone else do it. That. So when I start grooming, his hair is already quite long. I used to put my comb on the clippers and remove as much hair as possible before bathing (why wash and dry all the hair I'm going to cut off anyway, right?). gets caught in the poodle's curly hair, or it falls out and I take more strands of hair than I intended, or the comb is clogged with hair and I have to take it out and clean it several times. with this blade in a paper basket full of hair before bathing, then washed and dried the dog, then cut his fur again with this blade to smooth it down and get the groom ready. It worked great! I thought I would have an issue with a blade not cutting the dog's fur as other reviewers have mentioned, but once I was sure the blade was flat against the dog's skin, it cut well. It's also a lot easier to trim a dog once the coat is blow dried - I bought a "Blaster" dog dryer (Double K Challenge Air 2 speed) years ago and it was definitely a good investment - she's getting one curly poodle. The hair is nice and straight so I can cut and trim his coat and make him look as good as a professional groomer! Wool dulls the blade but I do it anyway, mostly because I groom about 6 times a year so the blades don't cut much and I haven't noticed that they dull faster than the blades. Blades I don't use for a dirty coat and also because I don't mind sending my blades in for sharpening.
