Doesn't bother pets at all, dogs sleep on it, cats sit on it and chew. It is set to high. So sad, really wish it would work. I can't return it because the cats ate it.

I'm a bit tired of yelling "Get off the sofa!" every 20 minutes. We LOVE our sofa and so does Reilly. Now he was shocked and doesn't want to touch it. This thing literally saved my sofa!

I have purchased several of these mats from different brands over the years; has always worked very well. This one isn't strong enough to scare away pets, and my grandchildren even commented that it "doesn't even sting".

Doesn't seem to work on all surfaces, especially carpet. Better on parquet floor. Like on the couch. I will save it for situations that may arise, my cats are only 5 months old now. They've gotten a little hype from it, so they're a bit wary of the carpet itself. But they quickly overcome that indecision. This should work for something like a kitchen countertop. Of course I'm disappointed.

I bought 2 of these and they arrived today. I put new lithium energizer batteries in both. Both turn on as described in the supplied instructions. At high settings, the impact was barely noticeable. The reason I'm bringing them both back is that they turn off after hitting once and have to be turned back on manually. Both mats are completely separated after a single electric shock. Tried different batteries, same result. I'll send both back tomorrow.

Works great for keeping dogs off the couch. Didn't have the same efficiency when I put it on the floor in front of the stairs. I was hoping it would work as an invisible dog gate, but the dogs walked right through without hesitation. I stepped on it while carrying my underwear and didn't even realize it was on. When first started up with fresh batteries, the device worked as expected. One cat might even have been shocked when we left the room - heard him hurry up and run away. The unit didn't work the next day so I replaced the batteries thinking I had left it on for too long. But even with new batteries, the device only flashes and beeps loudly and repeatedly. I used this type of contraption to prevent house cats from wandering through an open door by placing a cushion on the inside sill. In my experience, the shock is expected to be mildly uncomfortable and paired with an audible cue to teach the cat to avoid the mat. when bought new and with new batteries, the shock is very soft and didn't bother a barefoot 14 year old with the max setting. Let's face it, these mats don't always work. Some animals seem to magically avoid wires and electric shocks. This mat works for my cat. She knows what it is and stays away from it. This rug replaces another style rug. The wire in this rug was beginning to unravel and it was possible to trip over it. I prefer this rug for several reasons.
