This razor was my last step into adulthood. I went from being a member of a shaving club that charges $1 a month, to a safety razor and soap kit, to a brush and soap upgrade, and finally to this one. Shaving with a razor. Experience is something you should enjoy. Throwing money into shaving to save money on shaving cream and razor blades isn't going to work for you here. The financial savings are offset by the time required to provide this service. The facial preparation, lathering and actual shaving in several passes are luxurious and relaxing treatments. This is not something you can go through and expect positive results from. About the product: The product is made of stainless steel. The razor is a two-part mechanism, similar to scissors. What appear to be brass pins serve as support for the blades. When closed, brass pins fit into holes on the opposite half, and a latch holds the two pieces together. The included Shark blades fit the razor very snugly and offer a very limited opening, reducing the severity of facial cuts (oh, and you will). In fact, the only reason I would go the other way is for the grip. While aesthetically pleasing, the weight imbalance between the razor and the handle makes it difficult to flip and maneuver the blade tip in my large hands. Stepping into this all green, I had no idea that the weight of something you probably wouldn't directly interact with (with a grip) would make a difference. I currently have some cupro nickel weights glued onto the handle. I noticed the change immediately. Conclusion: I certainly don't regret the purchase as an introduction to straight razor shaving. Full intention of finding a heavier grip within the next year.
