Connection: Only works well with a Bluetooth connection with 1 mobile device within 7-10 feet. another 20 dollars. Supposedly you can use an Android mobile device as a bridge and download the Monbridge app to use that mobile device as a wifi bridge only (it didn't work for us after a few tries with the new Kindle Fire we just bought) . Over WiFi, it takes a long time to install and connect EVERY time you open the app. The connection will take AT LEAST, if not more, 1 minute. And it's finicky, sometimes we have to turn off and on the wifi bridge to get Monbaby back on it. The mobile device you use to connect MonBaby must be a MonBaby-only device for continuous monitoring. If you're using your phone and need to switch the app to watch something else, it takes a minute to reconnect when you return to the app. It's just uncomfortable in every way. The device itself: the ring that holds the monbaby to clothing quickly breaks after 2 weeks of use. You also can't attach it to something thick. The orientation function only works if your little one is wearing tight-fitting clothing. I like the temperature sensor, it tells me if the baby is warm or cold under the diaper/blanket (this is just the ambient temperature around the body, NOT the inside temperature of the body). However, there is no good indication of what temperature range is appropriate for this particular device under the cover. We've only used it on ourselves to get an idea of what temperature is ideal/comfortable. The battery for this item is not rechargeable. Big disadvantage. If you keep your monbaby connected to the app, the battery will last 3-4 days before you need to replace it. We have battery recycling through our collection service, so it's not a problem for us, but a hassle. We also can't tell when the battery is low, as there's no indication that it's a low battery or a connection issue. I'm changing the battery after having to try turning Wi-Fi off and on again or connecting via Bluetooth to see if the battery is dead. If you have a newborn and are already sleep deprived, the last thing you want to do is add another checkbox to keep track. Overall: what it can do is useful, but only with Bluetooth connectivity. The battery needs to be changed frequently (not rechargeable). It's nice to have, but not for security reasons, as the connection is finicky and notification is only through the app, which also means you'll need a dedicated device to keep the app open at all times. If you're looking for something for baby safety, we've relied on Owlet's smart sock since baby was born. It monitors the baby's heart rate and oxygen levels and alerts you if something is wrong. I'm telling you it works! I breastfed once and fell asleep. The baby's face was pressed against my chest and the sock went through the base because it wasn't breathing and the baby was saved!
