Review on πŸ”Œ Enhanced Connectivity with Logitech G613 Lightspeed Mechanical Multihost by Dusty Tofte

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The start is good, but there are flaws.

When Logitech announced the wireless mechanical keyboard, I went insane for waiting for what seemed like ages. When I read the release details I was a bit disappointed but they were a bit expected. I'll start by saying I had several reasons why I wanted a wireless mechanical keyboard. 1) I can't tap on membranes anymore, my WPM literally drops to at least 40 from not tapping. Therefore, other WLAN solutions do not come to mind. 2) I've wanted a wireless desk for a long time and now the G613 and G900 combo makes it possible. 3) I use keyboard and mouse on XIM 4 to play on console and it saves me from having multiple keyboards and moving items around. I just put the keys in XIM 4 and that's it. 4) I also like using Steam Link and Shield in my living room. Not having a cable shop makes this a no-brainer. Now you are probably wondering why 3 stars? Well, the keyboard's eligibility criteria were a good start, but it has subjective flaws. So I'm going to talk about the pros and cons for me personally. Pros: 1) Wireless AND mechanical 2) Keycaps look decent (not that curvy weird shit found on the G910) 3) Power button 4) Media keys and G-keys 5) Wireless AND Bluetooth compatible (more more on that later) 6) Absolutely no lag when gaming or typing. 7) The battery life is phenomenal, although other manufacturers claim it's almost impossible 8) The plastic used is not very sensitive to sweat or skin oils, which is a must for me 9) *Subjective* The keyboard has a pleasant weight, which is noticeable feels quality. It doesn't flex like a cheap keyboard and I'm comfortable moving it around. 10) The fold-out keyboard feet are strong and large for more grip, and the rubber is very grippy. 11) Easy access battery area and convenient place to mount receiver. when moving or packing. Now for them: Cons: 1) When waking from sleep mode, the keyboard usually misses a keypress no matter how fast it's working. 2) I don't like Romer G switches. I've been using Cherry switches for so long that I'm really used to Brown's. RGs seem very soft compared to the machine. Almost like a diaphragm, but with a larger actuating spring. 3) Built-in palm rest, design essential or not, annoying. I've never used it and it makes the keyboard unnecessarily bulky. 4) Media keys are lame. They're big and easy to hit, but I'm not a big fan of how they feel when pressed or the feedback they give. Personally, I also prefer the scroll wheel to increase the volume. 5) While I like the keycaps better than I do on my G710+, I don't like them as much as the keycaps on my CODE. 6) Speaking of keycaps, for $150 (at the time) keyboards would you expect to find anything other than printed labels on keycaps. I knew about this when I bought it from the reviews but was still a bit disappointed. 7) It has no backlight at all. This is obviously for battery life, but while I'm not a fan of crazy RGB, I would have preferred a subtle white glow-in-the-dark in games with dark scenes. If I didn't have LED strips to create atmosphere, I wouldn't be able to see the keys while gaming at night unless I turn on the lights. 8) There is a Caps Lock indicator but NO Num Lock indicator. I don't quite understand why, but I prefer it since I use the numeric keypad. 9) As I've mentioned in other reviews, nothing negative about the physical keyboard aspect, but if I didn't have previous experience with creating macros with LGS it would be a nightmare. There are many features, but the execution could be better. 10) And finally, a small but not entirely decisive stitch, why dark grey? I would prefer a black keyboard. If you're still reading now, you're a true MVP. Going back to where I mentioned Bluetooth, I was blown away by the fact that it doubles as a Bluetooth keyboard. It's almost a one size fits all for my personal use. Switching between wireless and bluetooth is very easy and it instantly connects to whatever device I want to print to. Be it my iPhone, Android phone, Laptop, Tablet, Shield, PS4 Pro, whatever. Just press the Bluetooth button and start typing. Because of this, despite the pros and cons, I use this keyboard every day for almost everything. I almost want a second one for work so I don't have to try and stuff this thing in my backpack. 3 stars and many cons but don't get me wrong. For a "first release" from Logitech, this is a really solid keyboard. If you really pay attention to some of my subjective views, I'll definitely buy the G613+ or something. I would have one at work, home and 10 keyless for my streaming pc would be great too.
