Review on πŸŽ’ Osprey Farpoint Travel Backpack: Essential Daypack for Casual Adventures by David Shah

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent all round backpack

I was looking for a versatile backpack that could be used for training and travelling. I train cross country and track so I'm out when the weather is bad and I need a pack that can keep up. This backpack has good waterproofing, but I bought a waterproof bag for it anyway. I also wanted a backpack big enough to take with me on a trip less than 5 days. The Farpoint 55 is 24 inches long and 24 inches is the maximum carry-on length in the Southwest, so I felt comfortable with the size of the bag. I was in the ring with the smaller 40L model, but the big draw for me was the small zipped daypack that comes with the 55L and 80L models. I like that I can travel with a large backpack and then leave it in the car or hotel and just take a small daypack with me on trips. The reason I gave this backpack 4 stars and not 5 is because there are two features I would like to see. Firstly, it is a type of webbing on the front of the daypack that closes the front of the full daypack. This would provide more external storage options and better accommodate water bottles. I took my own cord and created my own webbing that I threaded through the outer straps, but it should come loose when I take out the smaller package. Another downside is that I wish there were more internal pockets for more small storage in a large backpack. As a coach and traveler, I use them for specific things that I might need that I don't want or can't just toss in a big bag. The smaller package has some of these. I highly recommend Farpoint 55.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
