2000 Pontiac Montana Unique Key Fob Programming Tips

This key fob works very well as a replacement, but here are a few tips that might help those who have a 2000 Pontiac Montana. Please note that these instructions only apply to this van model and year: 1) Make sure all your doors are CLOSED before attempting to enter programming mode, ESPECIALLY the power sliding door. If you have an older Montana, you know how sometimes the door will close but the van will sound an alarm when you try to drive and the door will register as "not closed". You can easily turn this off via the overhead controls, but in this state the keyfobs will never be programmed. So that's tip #1.2) After removing the BCM fuse, get in the van, close all the doors, insert the key and turn it to ACC (towards you), WAIT for the computer stops beeping. Otherwise, the computer cannot be put into programming mode. 3) After the beep stops, turn the key to the OFF position for one second and then turn it back to the ACC position (towards you). You will hear a "rapid" ringing. 4) Open and close any door. A short beep sounds when the door is closed. You are now in programming mode. 5) Press both the lock and unlock buttons on the first fob. You hear 1 ring. Keep holding the buttons. Eventually you will either hear a beep and the locks will work, or the van will beep and the locks will work. This may take a while, 14 seconds or more. The key fob is now programmed. 6) Repeat step 5 for all additional key fobs. Repeating step 5, I found that some keychains take longer than others. The supplier's key fobs work great and I am delighted that they offer such a great replacement product.
