and since I'm small, I catch cold easily. I have to wear several layers of clothes every day

+warm+wicking+not bulky-expensive-wind through I live where it's cold and because I'm small I catch cold easily. I have to wear layers of clothing every day, but I don't want to look like a snowboarder when everyone else is wearing jeans, so I dress under jeans. Regular base layers like long underwear are warm, but they're thick, stick to other layers, and don't clump and sweat well. I wear these men's tights as a first layer over my regular underwear. They are smooth and glide well over other layers. They are also slightly warmer than long johns and also wick away moisture. In extreme cold you will also need an intermediate layer and/or a windproof layer as these tights are not made for hard work. The wind goes through. I haven't compared them to other tights but they definitely do the job. They also seem expensive. Update 12/31/18: They are not as expensive and warm as I thought. They are slightly more sweaty compared to merino. Anything with some merino wool will be much warmer. My current stack consists of skinny whites, then a merino wool blend (which is much warmer on its own), then this, then Nike windbreakers, then outer jeans. This stack works almost as well as full winter pants, but is thin and fully under jeans. It irritates me that my woolen fabric is "200 grams" thick and hardly cut together. I want a layer underneath the windbreaker for insulation. Next time I'll try "400 grams". Be careful with pure merino wool as pure wool wears out and is short-lived. It's still a huge upgrade from the cotton knickers you wore as a kid, but there are better ones out there if you're willing to shell out the cash.
