Review on πŸ“· Capture Stunning Moments with the Canon PowerShot ELPH 340 HS Digital Camera – Wi-Fi Enabled (Purple) by Bobby Martinez

Great camera with some new Wi-Fi features.

Update 9/2/16: Years later the camera still works well, we haven't managed to break it yet and it's holding up well. Just like the day it was new. This camera requires some training compared to my previous ELPHS as it has many new features that none of them had. On our last ELPH, the screen died when condensation formed in my back pocket on a hot, sweaty day. The camera still works, there's just no screen to know what's going on with the photos you take. This will be my 3rd or 4th ELPH and I swear by them and would highly recommend them to anyone as they are cheap little cameras that pack a lot of power. If you know how to operate a camera, you can get some really great shots of these little guys. I've had friends who use expensive and fancy DSLRs comment on how good my shots are and ask what camera I'm using. They're usually surprised when they find out I'm using a cheap point and shoot camera! SO it wasn't difficult to buy another one when the time came! This one is as good as we expected. It takes good, sharp, crisp images in a wide range of lighting conditions. I've taken close-up product photos and fun family photos and when they work with me, the photos look great! I mainly use it on Auto as I'm learning how to use it, but over time I'll expand and experiment more. Another useful feature is a creative auto capture where you point and take a picture, and it takes a picture and shows multiple versions (no selection, it's just randomly selected) of artistic shots. It's interesting and fun to play with, but I'm not sure I'll use it all the time, maybe for fun sometimes! It also has another shot feature which I don't understand but I'll keep reading and playing with the book until I figure it out. Is it a short video and a picture? I've also taken videos and they look fine as long as there aren't any lighting or grain issues like some of the cameras' video capabilities. I think it can record video even better than my Canon camcorder. Definitely faster and easier to record videos and transfer them to my computer. What I like about this camera is that the video is not one of the slider functions like it used to be. You can stay in picture mode and just press the capture button on the back very quickly, then stop and it will automatically go back to picture mode. Love it, no more fumbling with the switch on top and skipping pics and videos! However, the reason I gave this one a star is because of the play or view button. The way it's positioned on the camera, I keep pressing it while holding the camera to press the shutter button to take a picture. It's right below this button, I rest my index finger on the button and my thumb on the back of the camera, especially when using the camera with one hand (just in case with a wrist strap). I keep pressing this button and have to press it again to be able to take a picture again. It's a minor downside and I'll learn to deal with it or work around it eventually. I guess I'll have to learn how to hold the camera defiantly. What I really LOVE, LOVE, LOVE about this camera is the Wi-Fi capabilities. I'm not a big fan of automatic uploads. Even though I created an account with Canon I probably won't let them upload my photo to their website, any of the clouds or social media. If I'm not traveling and there's no room for more on the map, I can do this as a last resort. But only on their website, which is kept private and not shared. You also have the option to automatically upload files to sites like Facebook. As I said, I suspect if I plug it in and the kids accidentally or intentionally upload my bad photo! hahaha. What I love about it is the ability to download apps to both my iPod Touch gen4 and my husband's Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 and use them as photo remotes. Here are some new family photos! We firmly planned to put the camera on a tripod and take a family photo, now we can see what we are doing and use the application to shoot in front of the camera. The app saves all images on the camera, not in the app. If you want them on your device, you can save them from camera to device if they are on the same Wi-Fi network. So you won't be working outside, but it's very cool at home. You can also download the software to your computer to download images without removing the camera card over Wi-Fi. I can't wait to keep playing with this camera to see what else it can do. I bought it for $130 and I think it was worth it!
