Review on Swivi Universal Foldable Viewfinder Magnification by Lokesh Das

Revainrating 3 out of 5

***WARNING*** Not suitable for pro DSLR with vertical battery grip attached.

I was so disappointed that I couldn't use this on my Nikon D810 with the vertical battery grip attached. The vertical rails on the left and right sides of the adjustable arm that allow the magnifier to be lowered and raised should be 1.5 inches higher, and the flat male tongue portion of the same arm should be 0.75 inches longer due to the width of the camera and the vertical arm battery. However, the size of the magnifier was perfect and it fitted my LCD screen perfectly, allowing me to see everything on the screen in full, including menus and anything I captured or photographed in Live View, right down to every corner of the LCD. . I really wish this Swivi II viewfinder/magnifier could be modified. The unit's plastic lenses were well fitted, the viewfinder blades opened and closed easily with a slide switch at the top, and the diopter adjustment dial seemed to work well enough to focus sharply. Overall I was very happy with the build quality and features of this device but was very disappointed that the mount was too small for my D810. When I tried to visit their website to see if there was a larger mount I could purchase, according to the pop-up message, their website [www(dot)swiviusa(dot)com printed on their packaging] had expired . For this manufacturer, Swivi USA, it would not be a problem to make the mount a bit larger so that it can be mounted on larger professional SLR cameras. If only I could contact the company.

Pros
  • A highly sealed lens hood blocks light and enlarges the frame for accurate color reproduction and focus.
Cons
  • Long delivery time
