For parking mode you need to connect it, please read this when using parking mode. Not for hot climates!

This DVR is really good in my opinion. Most things are covered in other reviews so I won't repeat myself here. One thing that isn't well lit is the parking mode. If you want the dash cam to detect when someone crashes into your car in the parking lot, you need to turn on parking mode and make sure the camera always has power. This means you either have to plug it into the car or use the battery. For those concerned about battery drain, the Vantrue harnesses have cutoff switches that operate at 11.x volts. Most vehicles should still be able to start with this, but not all. It depends. More important is that you set the parking mode correctly! To reduce the chances of ever needing a jump, set Parking Mode to Collision and Medium. Otherwise, if you use 'Up' or motion detection, it can cause parking mode to keep activating and drain your battery! I suspect that 90% of people who complain have this problem. The default setting for collision detection is sensitivity "High". In my experience it was too sensitive and kept tripping in parking lots. So make sure you adjust this setting and you will most likely not have this problem. Update 7/22/2021 I'm in Florida and have found that if I leave it on it gets too hot and shuts off for a while. Because of this, I'm not always sure what he's recording. I also wonder how long this will go on. I usually just remove it every day when I'm done, but the parking mode is a big reason for my purchase. Also, the mount is a little tricky to remove just part of the camera. I deduct a star for that. It really needed to be made a bit bulkier and maybe with a bigger heatsink and sunshade for more protection from direct sunlight. Note that after a few weeks of July Florida summer sun, the camera still technically works -- it only turns off when it gets hot.
