Wow, Lenovo! They kill it in the budget line these days. I have an AMD based Flex 14 and for the money this is a great general purpose laptop. The Tab M8 continues the tradition of offering a great low price at a very good price. I've been buying, returning or selling a whole range of tablets for a long time and I'm looking for a tablet that meets all my requirements: Inexpensive, decent workmanship, acceptable performance and functionality. First a big surprise: the battery life is insanely good compared to every other tablet I've used. Screen time is around 16.5 hours at 50-60% brightness and 15% battery remaining after gaming, browsing, reading PDFs and watching videos. It's amazing and doubles or more the battery life I'm used to from a cheap tablet. I could take it with me on a very long day of travel and be sure I don't have to charge the battery. The resolution of 1280x800 is sufficient, but nothing special. However, PDFs and text are very legible and sharp enough when you're not pressing them to your face that higher resolution isn't really needed and only has a negative impact on battery life. The performance is surprisingly good for a Mediatek processor. In the past, the MTK processors I've used in low-end tablets have been abysmal in performance, barely able to scroll web pages smoothly, let alone play games and the like. Despite being on the lower end of the spectrum, this processor still delivers amazing performance and even fairly intense games are mostly smooth and playable. Warning: For netflix HD users, this tablet does not have the DRM chip required for HD display. You can still watch Netflix, but I believe that's the DVD's max resolution, or around 540p. Since the screen is really only 720p, it really isn't a big deal to me.
