As for the blue bulbs, I think this one performs better than larger bulbs of the same wattage. I have used both repeatedly. All reptile bulbs are regularly dimmed, but this one is fine. WARNING: To have a healthy reptile you need BOTH this lamp and a UVB lamp (fluorescent, indicating it produces UVB). Preference should be given to the lamp, not the CFL. Reptiles need both UVA and UVB radiation to be healthy and to produce essential vitamins and chemicals, and light is the only way to do this. These rays do not go through glass or Plexiglas.
