It was better than I expected. The packaging isn't the best and I thought it was used because it was covered in white sand. It turned out to be dust from ceramic rings. It was packed with ceramic rings already loaded under the sponge. Open it up and inspect it before you start it. I dried it immediately and the fan made a terrible binding noise. It turned out that the fan cover was not installed correctly. After washing it, reassembling it properly, it worked quietly. This will easily handle a 20 gallon standard, maybe 20 gallons long if you don't need a heavy flow of water. Next time I'll go with the 10-40 gallon version.
